For the two of us, our co-authoring started in role play. The two of us wrote together quite a lot and for some reason it always flowed. There was always a great fan response to our posts and we were very comfortable writing together. As
we expanded from role play to authoring short stories, we helped each other out. We would ask each other advice and we really
became supporters for each other and more or less each others' 'go to' person to
bounce ideas off of. One of our chats
resulted in us creating the Erotic Author’s Fan Page and Gallery where we could
interact with the other authors and fans, help each other out and build a
community. We were talking about what to
post in the gallery when we got to discussing writing a short story together.
We were all over the place at first.
Did we want to write a BDSM story, a contemporary romance? Once we had the basics down we
dove right in. One of us would start, writing the first chapter and send the document over. The other did the next bit
and sent it back. It worked really well for us.
Since we were used to the fast pace of role play and had written with
each other a lot, it flowed smoothly and went quickly. It worked because we knew each other so well. We knew each others writing style and how the other thought writing wise. The
challenge was keeping the story uniform, and not sounding too much like a role
play story line. It went really well and
we’ve written three books together, We definitely
have plans to keep our co authoring going. We have a few more ideas already, but the challenge is finding time. Plus, we both have quite
a few other stories of our own in the planning. Co-authoring isn't for everyone and it’s really important to
know your writing partner well, know their writing style inside out and have good
communication. It works for us. We’ve gotten great feedback and
reviews and are having a blast doing it.
